What inspired you to create a service that prepares a family’s home before they return with their newborn?
There’s so much preparation for birth, but far less for what happens afterward, the adjustment, the emotions, the vulnerability, the learning curve.
When I had my first child, despite having a wonderful mother (interstate), a generous mother-in-law (an hour away), a loving partner (working long hours), and brilliant friends (who hadn’t yet had children), there were still big gaps between what I needed postpartum, what I knew I needed, and what I felt comfortable asking for. And there’s a large population of women who don’t have immediate family or community around them to help create a soft landing.
I had always been capable, fast moving and independent, and then this glorious, heart-opening new love arrived and changed that. It was beautiful, and a bit disorienting. And like so many women, I carried the quiet belief: “I should be able to do this.” There’s a lot of space between asking for support and being in crisis, but so many of us aren’t great at the former.
I wanted to offer thoughtful, practical postpartum support – beautiful food, nourishment, comfort without intrusion or expectation, and without parents needing to ask or say thank you in the moment.
