About The Motherhood Centre
Hi, I’m Colette — a Registered Nurse, Nurse Educator, mum, and the founder of The Motherhood Centre.
I’ve spent more than 20 years working with babies and families, including many years in neonatal and special care nursing and nurse education. But it was my own experience of motherhood and the challenges I faced during the postpartum period that really shaped what would eventually become The Motherhood Centre.
Despite my professional experience, I discovered just how challenging and isolating the transition into motherhood could be. It made me recognise a significant gap in postpartum care – particularly when it came to supporting the mother, not just her baby.
The Motherhood Centre grew from a desire to help fill that gap.
I wanted to create a welcoming place where mothers could access trusted, evidence-based information, practical support and, just as importantly, genuine connection with other women navigating the same season of life.
I now support women from pregnancy through the newborn stage, infancy, toddlerhood and beyond. Services include mothers’ groups, pregnancy meet-ups, baby and child CPR and first aid education, newborn care education, feeding and starting solids support, sleep and settling guidance, developmental education and individual support for families who need more personalised care.
Our mothers’ groups are intentionally kept small, creating a relaxed environment where you can ask questions, learn about your baby, meet other mums and genuinely get to know one another. We combine education with conversation, activities, guest professionals, outings and plenty of opportunities to simply sit down with a coffee and connect.
My approach is never about telling you there is one “right” way to parent. Every mother, baby and family is different. My role is to provide evidence-based information, practical strategies and support so you feel more informed and confident making decisions for your own family.
Whether you’re preparing for your first baby, navigating those early postpartum weeks, looking for your village, or simply wishing you had someone knowledgeable to ask, The Motherhood Centre is a place where the mother matters too.
