About Mothers’ Group (Nurturing Beginnings)

Mothers’ Group is a community-based initiative of Nurturing Beginnings, a registered Australian charity working to make meaningful support during the first year of motherhood accessible to every mother, regardless of her financial circumstances, location or existing support network.

We provide free, professionally facilitated mothers’ groups for mothers and babies during the first 12 months after birth. Unlike one-off events or informal social gatherings, our groups bring the same mothers together each week in a consistent, welcoming and emotionally safe environment. This continuity allows relationships to move beyond surface-level connection and develop into trusted, lasting support networks.

Each group is guided by an experienced facilitator who creates space for honest conversation, shared learning and genuine connection. Mothers can talk openly about the realities of early parenthood, build confidence in their own instincts and feel less alone during a period that can otherwise be isolating and overwhelming.

Our groups also help connect mothers with the wider network of services available to them. Through trusted guest speakers, practical resources and facilitator guidance, participants learn about perinatal mental health, infant development, feeding, sleep, physical recovery, relationships and other aspects of maternal and family wellbeing. When additional support is needed, we help mothers understand where they can turn.

We believe that every mother deserves a village—not only those who can afford private programs or happen to have family and friends nearby. By strengthening mothers’ wellbeing, confidence and social connection from the beginning, we aim to create better outcomes for mothers, babies, families and communities.
