Beyond Baby Stuff: Gifting Support to New Mothers
The Best Baby Shower or New Baby Gift? Postpartum Support.
At Not Another Onesie, we’re passionate about making postpartum support visible, valued, and easy to gift. We believe new mothers don’t need more baby gear, they need nourishment, support, and care.
The postpartum period, those crucial weeks and months after birth, is often more overwhelming than expected. Between sleep deprivation, physical recovery, emotional changes, and identity shifts, mothers are navigating a whole new world. That’s why we encourage friends and family to consider giving supportive services not just for baby showers, but at any time during those early months after the baby arrives.
Offering postnatal care and support can ease stress, reduce burnout, and strengthen the family’s wellbeing from day one. It’s a simple but powerful way to say, “I see you, Mama, and you matter as much as your beautiful babe”.
Why Postpartum Support Make the Best Baby Shower or New Baby Gifts.
The right kind of support during the early weeks of motherhood can have a long-lasting impact. Gifting mother-focused services is invaluable when:
A group of friends or colleagues want to contribute to a meaningful gift
Family members live far away and want to offer real help
The new parents already have the baby essentials covered
When you give a gift that centres on the mother’s needs, whether emotional, physical, or practical, you’re helping to build a solid foundation for recovery and connection. These gifts work beautifully for baby showers, postpartum milestones, or simply as a gesture of support when things feel overwhelming.
Postpartum Gift Ideas That Support and Nourish New Mums
Meal delivery or meal prep services
A steady flow of nourishing meals is one of the most helpful gifts you can give. It supports healing, boosts energy, and saves time. Suppose you’re unsure about preferences, a meal delivery voucher such as this or this one gives the mum full choice. This is often one of the most-loved gifts we hear about at Not Another Onesie!
Cleaning or household help
Hiring a cleaning service (a voucher works brilliantly for this) helps alleviate the pressure of daily chores, allowing parents to rest and bond with their baby.
Postpartum doula support
For families without nearby support, or even those who have it but need more hands-on care, a postpartum doula offers emotional, physical, and practical support in the home. This kind of specialised care can be a true game-changer. What about a doula for a day? What an incredible gift that would be!
Community and connection vouchers
A gift card to a local mother’s group, circle, or supportive community gathering can help a new mum build friendships and feel less alone during this huge life transition.
Feeding and sleep consultations
If the new mum is navigating breastfeeding or bottle feeding challenges, a session with a lactation consultant can make a world of difference. Similarly, a sleep specialist can help the whole family find more rest with developmentally appropriate guidance.
Postnatal movement or physio
Help mums gently return to safe movement with a mums & bubs Pilates class, a postnatal exercise program, or a session with a women’s health physio. These services support physical healing and rebuild strength and confidence.
Massage or wellness centre gift
A postnatal massage or a visit to a multidisciplinary wellness centre that offers various treatments to soothe and heal, as well as deep restoration, relaxation, and a moment to reconnect with self, something many mothers deeply crave.
Baby & child first aid course
Safety is a massive source of anxiety for new parents. A voucher for a baby first aid course can be an incredibly empowering and practical gift, offering peace of mind during those early, unsure months.
A professional postpartum photo session
Those early weeks can be a blur, so gifting a beautiful photo session to capture the raw, messy, emotional beauty of postpartum is priceless. These photos often become cherished memories that remind mums of just how far they’ve come.
Let Her Choose: Personalising the Perfect Gift
When it comes to more personal services, especially those requiring a good fit between practitioner and client, it’s a great idea to direct the mum to Not Another Onesie.
There, she can:
Explore a curated directory of postpartum support providers
Save her favourites
Share her ideal service list with you
This way, your gift is both meaningful and aligned with what she truly needs.
Let’s Rethink Gifting for New Mothers
Our NAO The Motherhood Store is filled with the very best supportive gifts and resources.
When you choose support-based gifts over baby items, you’re sending a message that mum matters too. You’re helping her feel seen, supported, and truly cared for, and that has a ripple effect on her baby, her family, and her recovery.
So next time you’re wondering what to buy for a baby shower, a newborn arrival, or a birth celebration, consider giving something that supports the mother.
Because when we nurture the mum, we nurture the whole family, and there’s no better gift than that.

Inside the Postpartum Home Preparation Service Transforming New Parents’ First Days
Bringing a newborn home is one of the most transformative moments in a family’s life, but it often arrives with overwhelm, exhaustion, and a steep learning curve. While many expectant parents spend months preparing for birth, far fewer have the time, support, or energy to prepare their home for the postpartum period. That’s where the NEST postpartum home preparation service steps in. Designed to create a soft landing for new parents and parents travelling with young children, this offering blends practical support, newborn home organisation, nourishing postpartum food, thoughtful touches, and a deep understanding of what new mothers and families truly need in those early days. We interviewed Kendra Greig the founder of NEST, to explore what inspired this unique service, what families can expect, and how a beautifully prepared home can ease the transition into newborn life.

Ma Wisdom
At Ma Wisdom, we believe intergenerational knowledge is powerful. There’s something deeply meaningful about the kind of wisdom passed down through families, the kind that comes from lived experience and a desire to help.
But while that kind of wisdom is timeless, the world of birth and parenting has changed and many new parents struggle with outdated advice, boundaries being crossed and risk offending grandparents by wanting to do things differently than in their day.
At Ma Wisdom, our tailored workshops are thoughtfully designed with a light-hearted approach to help embrace the exciting transition into grandparenting and to equip grandparents and chosen supporters with essential tools and insights.
By nurturing the innate and accumulated wisdom grandparents already hold, we’ll bring them up to date on what’s changed since they had babies, including newborn safety and the best ways to support new families in the early weeks postpartum. We’ll explore the importance of boundaries – how to set them before the baby arrives and how to navigate them with care and include opportunities to rebuild confidence through a practical skills refresher. We’ll also look at their own transition into grandescence and how this new stage of life can shape their experiences and perspectives.
Led by qualified trainers with over 25 years of combined experience supporting families, we hold TAE accreditation and are qualified, accredited birth and postpartum doulas, as well as certified childbirth and early parenting educators. We are also mothers, grandmothers, aunties, sisters and women with a deep desire to support intergenerational bonds.
Our workshops help grandparents gain valuable knowledge to navigate the vital role they play in a newly emerging family. The right support after having a baby makes all the difference, we’ll help them be just the kind of support you’re looking for.
Open to new and soon-to-be grandparents, great aunts/uncles and anyone else chosen to be a grandparent figure.

How to Talk About Sharing the Mental Load with Your Partner: A Complete Guide
In many households, the mental and emotional work of managing a family, often called the invisible load, falls disproportionately on mothers. It's not just about doing tasks; it's about carrying the mental checklist: remembering appointments, organising activities, planning meals, and anticipating everyone's needs. Over time, this invisible mental load can lead to resentment, overwhelm, and burnout.
