Conversations to Have Before Bub Arrives – A Helpful Resource
The Conversations Every Couple Should Have Before Baby Arrives
Most parents spend months preparing for their baby’s arrival. They research prams, pack hospital bags, decorate nurseries and tick off endless checklists.
But one of the most valuable ways to prepare for parenthood isn’t something you can buy.
It’s having the conversations that help you understand each other’s expectations, worries, hopes and plans before life becomes beautifully busy with a newborn.
From sleep and support to finances, family boundaries, communication and the mental load, these are the conversations many couples don’t have until they’re already navigating postpartum.
That’s why we’ve created our free ‘Conversations to Have Before Bub Arrives’ Cards a printable resource designed to help you start those conversations now, while you have the time and space to explore them together.
And if your baby is already here, don’t worry, it’s not too late. These prompts are just as valuable in the early weeks, months or even years of parenting. Simply adapt the questions to reflect your current experience, check in with one another, and use them as a way to reconnect, reflect and strengthen your communication as you navigate parenthood together.
Download your free ‘Conversations to Have Before Bub Arrives’ Cards below and start the conversations that can help you feel more connected, supported and prepared, wherever you are on your parenting journey.

How to Use These Cards
There are no right or wrong answers, and you don’t need to have everything figured out before your baby arrives.
Some questions will feel easy and obvious. Others may not seem relevant right now and that’s okay. Often, you don’t know what you don’t know until you’ve had the conversation. Even if a topic doesn’t feel important today, it may still be worth a moment of thought or a note to revisit later.
Take your time. Some conversations may flow naturally, while others might need a few chats over days or weeks. If you don’t agree straight away, that’s perfectly normal. Pause, reflect, and come back to it when you’re both ready.
Use these cards as a conversation starter, not a checklist. Skip anything that doesn’t fit your family, make notes as you go, and focus on understanding each other’s perspectives rather than finding the “right” answer.
You may even discover there are areas where a little extra information, guidance or support would help you feel more aligned or confident. That’s not a sign something is wrong, it’s simply part of preparing for one of life’s biggest transitions.
Looking for a Little Extra Support?
One of the best things these conversations can do is highlight where you feel confident and where you might benefit from a little more information or support before your baby arrives.
At Not Another Onesie, we’ve created a village of trusted Australian professionals who support families through pregnancy, birth and postpartum.
